As a new LPN, I worked on a neurological rehab unit and then in a pediatric and neonatal ICU. I also worked for the local health department, providing family-planning counseling when it was very controversial in my area. As an RN, I worked in a clinic setting, and started my own First Call business, in which I offered pediatric telephone assessment and advice. I also played a large part in starting a tri-county sexual assault nurse examiner program that has continued to grow in the Midwest.
